Downloading files with different browsers

STUCK? SEARCH INDEX MAIN

Here's what to do if you want to download a file (e.g. an image) to which a link points, rather than view it in a browser.

Explorer on Windows: Click on the link with the right mouse button, choose `Save Target As...'

Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox: Click on the link while holding down the `Shift' key. Or click on the link with the right mouse button (on a Mac with a one-button mouse hold down `Control' when clicking) and choose `Save Link Target as...'.

Safari: Move the mouse over the link. Hold down the `Option' key and click. The file will download to a default location on your disk. Or hold down the `Control' key to get a menu with more options, choose `Save Linked File...'. Finally, if you have a 3-button mouse, click on the link with the right mouse button.

If the file is already open in the browser window, you can also simply select `Save As...' from the `File' menu to save it to the local disk.
