COMPUTER ACCESS AT THE NIU MATH DEPARTMENT ------------------------------------------ Members of the Math Department and the Division of Statistics can use our computing facilities in varying degrees. All users are assigned a local username, such as "smith", even if they don't plan to use the system. Those who have and use an outside e-mail account (e.g. yahoo or hotmail) should tell us what that address is, and keep us informed of all changes. This way we can arrange for email to smith@math.niu.edu to be reliably forwarded to the place of your choice. This forwarding can be easily maintained as long as it's needed even after a user leaves the Department. In interactions with students and faculty it is best to give them that local Math Department address as a point of contact. If you are certain that you will soon need to use software on our Unix workstations, you will have to get a full-fledged account for the system. The password can be picked up from the system manager, Watson Hall 323. All graduate students are encouraged to consider learning the typesetting system TeX before starting to type up the thesis. Please answer the questions below and return them by email or on paper to the system manager, admin@math.niu.edu, WH 323, (815) 753 6727. ------------------------------------------------------------ Your name (first, last): Division: math stats Outside e-mail account, if any: Do you want NIU Math e-mail forwarded to that account?
