Mathematics Education Laboratory, DU 306
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Northern Illinois University maintains a Mathematics Education Laboratory in Du Sable Hall 306. This facility is intended to be used by mathematics education undergraduate and graduate students and research faculty. The Mathematics Education Lab includes handbooks of teaching and learning mathematics, research volumes, and books on professional development of teachers, national and international studies in mathematics education, problem solving, and research on current issues, such as teaching mathematics to diverse learners. The Mathematics Education Lab contains an extensive variety of manipulative materials and textbooks, journals, and other resources for exploring conceptual and procedural understanding of mathematics concepts with pre-kindergarten through high school students. Other materials in the lab include a SMART Board, document camera, Mac computers, and classroom sets of a variety of calculators. Seating is in a U-shaped table arrangement for 36 students. Undergraduate and graduate mathematics education courses are held in the lab during most of the weekday hours in fall and spring semesters. Open lab hours are also available every week for students and faculty to use the lab. The faculty and students of the Department of Mathematical Sciences are proud to support and maintain this remarkable research and instructional lab on the NIU campus.
