The Office of Testing Services (753-1203) offers the official Mathematics Placement Examination. The results of this examination are used to determine the appropriate level for students to begin their study of mathematics at NIU. The official results of this examination serve to meet the prerequisites of various courses offered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

This WEB site has two online placement tests that you can take. These are intended to give additional (unofficial) information beyond that provided by the Mathematics Placement Examination. There are also links to placement information from other universities.

The first test, Precalculus Placement, gives a recommended placement at NIU, from College Algebra through Calculus I.

The second test, Intermediate Placement, gives a recommended placement at the community college level, for students who are unprepared for the beginning mathematics courses at NIU.
