Instead of using a graphing calculator, you can graph functions online at these sites:
LECTURES: The class has three 50-minute lectures on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, two 50-minute help sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, together with a 50-minute supplemental instruction meeting on Thursday.
HELP SESSIONS (recitation): In the help session your teaching assistant will take attendance, work sample homework problems, answer questions, and return your homework.
QUIZZES: There will be a 20 point quiz each Friday (unless there is an exam scheduled for that week). The questions on the quizzes will usually be taken from the list of homework problems, and from examples in the text. If you read the book, and work all of the problems on the homework sheet, you will almost always have seen all of the questions on the quizzes. The quizzes will sometimes have multiple choice answers; your work in getting the answer will also be graded.
HOMEWORK: Assigned homework problems will be collected and handed back in recitation. I expect that there will also be some homework done over the web.
EXAMINATIONS: Hour exams will be held in DU 140 at 5:00 pm, on Thursday, February 2; Thursday, February 23; Thursday, March 30; and Thursday, April 27. The final exam is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10, from noon to 1:50 pm (room to be announced).
MAKE-UP EXAMS: You must contact my within 24 hours if you miss an exam and have a valid excuse.
GRADES: Grades will be based on a total of 800 points: 400 points on 4 multiple choice exams given in class; 100 points on quizzes (in lecture); 50 points for a recitation grade (homework and attendance); and 250 points on the comprehensive departmental final examination.
