Math 101 - Core Competency in Mathematics
What is the intended audience for this course?
WHO THE COURSE IS FOR: This is core competency math. It is intended for
arts and liberal arts students who do not have a specific math requirement,
and students who are not going for a science degree. This course is NOT
intended to prepare you for any other Math course, and will NOT count
as preparation for a required Math course that you did not place into.
More specifically.
- Liberal Arts and Sciences. Math 101 is a suitable course for
most B.A. candidates. It is not suitable for B.S. candidates.
- Engineering and Engineering Technology. Math 101 is not
recommended for any EET student.
- Education. Math 101 is suitable for many College of Education students.
It is not suitable for elementary education majors with a math speciality,
and some programs require a C as minimum grade in Math 101.
- Business. Math 101 is not suitable for College of Business students.
- Other colleges. Some programs allow Math 101, check your catalog or
consult with an advisor.
WHO IT IS NOT FOR: No science or business student should take this course.
This course does not "prepare" you for any other course. If you have a specific
required math course, other than 101, then you probably shouldn't be in 101.
Consult the program requirements for your course of study, see an academic
advisor in your intended department, or see Professor Stephen
if you are unsure about whether you should be in Math 101.
