Indigenous Rusin minorities are found in Slovakia, Poland, and Serbia's Vojvodina Autonomous Pokrajina. The Rusins of Slovakia codified and launched their own literary language at the beginning of 1995. I believe Ukraine does not recognize a separate Rusin nationality or language and considers these people and their language to be Ukrainian. Other attempts to codify a Rusin literary language have been made in Serbia and Zakarpatiia. If you search for the keyword "Rusin" on the Web, you should find plenty of hits. I'm impressed with your name, and I hereby nominate you as a cadidate for the presidency of the future Rusin Republic. How do you feel about moving to Uzhgorod? I'd always known about the state of Rus and assumed my name had something to do with that; now I've been finding out more about the subtleties of East European national identity! > I hereby nominate you as a cadidate for > the presidency of the future Rusin > Republic. How do you feel about moving to Uzhgorod? Well, um, I guess I'd arrange it like Mobutu "lived" in Kinshasa, undoubtedly with similar results. But maybe if I tire of this math thing I'll give you a ring and we'll talk... Thanks again for your response. dave
