INSTRUCTOR: Hongyou Wu, Ph.D.
OFFICE & PHONE: 324 Watson Hall, 753-6768, wu@math.niu.edu
OFFICE HOURS: 9:00AM-9:50AM on MWThF or by appointments
GRADING: Homework will be assigned at the end of each lecture, but not collected. There will be several quizzes at the beginning of lectures, without announcement in advance. The totals of quiz grades will be rescaled at the end of the semester so that the highest becomes 150 points. The following grading scale will be guaranteed:
STUDY HINTS: After each lecture, first review the material just covered and make it sure that you do understand the material (for example, you should know the intuitive meaning of each concept, and be able to redo the examples used in the lecture without looking at the solutions in your notes or the textbook), then do the homework carefully, and finally summarize the material (from small tricks to general principles) for yourself. You are expected to have at least two hours for this course after each lecture; if your background is weak, you will need more or much more time. Please keep in mind, the instructor is always very glad to discuss with you any questions or suggestions that you may have.
REGULATIONS: No calculator will be allowed during the tests and the final exam. It is the student's responsibility to inform the instructor promptly when there is an excuse for her/his absence. To have chances for extra credit, the student should come to each class and obtain at least half of the points for each quiz. To make-up a test with excuse, the student has to arrange it with the instructor as soon as possible. No early final exam will be given.
